William R. Ferrell

In 1860 he was a 17 year old farmer living with his father, step-mother, and brother (?) Isaac on their small farm at London Bridge in Princess Anne County, VA. He enlisted there on 3 April 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company F of the 6th Virginia Infantry.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 30 October and was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862.

He was in hospitals in Richmond and Farmville, VA to May 1863, then detailed as a nurse to the Jackson Hospital in Richmond. He returned to his company on 9 January 1864 and was captured again, on 27 October in action at Burgess Mills near Petersburg, VA. He was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD until 13 May 1865 when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.

In 1870 he was a farm worker at Princess Anne Court House, VA and in 1880 was working in a saw mill there.

He married Mary Adelina Fentress (1846-) in October 1865 and they had a daughter Alice, then 5 sons.
