Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted on 11 July 1861 at Centerville in Leon County, Texas and mustered as a Private in Company C, 5th Texas Infantry. He was promoted to 4th Sergeant on 1 December 1861, but was reduced to Private again by Colonel Robertson on 25 June 1862. He was elected 3rd Lieutenant of his company on 4 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by gunshots to both legs in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, and was carried to the rear by Private Pomeroy of Company A.

The rest of the War

One of his legs was amputated but that did not save him; he died of his wounds in a hospital in Shepherdstown, VA on 28 September 1862.
