Arnold W. Greene

Son and brother of blacksmiths, in 1860 he was a 15 year old blacksmith living with his parents and 8 siblings in Suwannee County, FL. He enlisted at Houston in Suwannee County on 10 May 1862 and mustered there on 15 May as a Private in Company C, 8th Florida Infantry.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 5 October, was formally exchanged on 10 November, and was furloughed home for 60 days on 13 November 1862. His furlough was extended, and he returned to duty in February 1863.

He was again on furlough from 25 June to 13 October, and transferred as a blacksmith to Battery B of Cutts' Artillery Battalion (Sumter Artillery/11th Artillery Battalion, Georgia Volunteers) on 14 November 1863 in exchange for Private C.J. Jones. He was with them to at least February 1865, the latest record in his military file.

In 1880 he was a blacksmith in Madison, FL. He died of alcoholism in Fernandina, FL in 1903 at about age 58, "found dead on the floor at Chadwick's."

He married Julia A Ramsey (c. 1852-) in October 1871 in Suwannee County, FL and they had at least 3 children.

His brother Charles was also captured at Frederick.
