Before Sharpsburg
He had service with his brothers Isaac and Silas as a Private in Captain Alexander Bell's Company of Florida Volunteers in the Seminole War (1856). In 1860 he was a 22 year old farmer at New Boston in Lafayette County, FL. He enlisted at Houston in Suwannee County on 10 May 1862 and mustered there on 15 May as a Private in Company C, 8th Florida Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862.
He was promoted to 3rd Corporal on 10 February 1863 and was wounded in action at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. He was captured there on 5 July. He was again a prisoner at Fort Delaware, from 8 July 1863 to 10 June 1865, when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.
After the War
By 1870 he was a farmer at New Troy in Lafayette County, FL.
