Thomas Edward Savage

Age 23, he enlisted at Orlando, FL on 17 May 1862 and mustered there the same day as a Private in Company G, 8th Florida Infantry.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September, in the Army hospital in Chester, PA until 24 October, and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 15 December, when he was sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange.

He was wounded by a gunshot to the left side of his chest in action at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and captured there the next day. He was treated at the US Army 12th Corps field hospital to 6 July, then sent to West's Buildings Hospital in Baltimore. He was paroled there on 23 August and sent to City Point, VA for exchange on 24 August 1863. There is no later record with his regiment.

By 1880 he was a farmer at De Land in Volusia County, FL and in 1900 he was a "trucker" (probably truck farmer) in Miami, FL. By 1910 and to his death in 1920 he had a truck farm at Dania, FL.

His service from his Compiled Service Records,1 online from fold3, and Soldiers,2 which also has him as F.E. Savage in Company E. He's also on the Confederates In Frederick List.3 Personal details from family genealogists and the US Census of 1880-1920. His gravesite is on Findagrave; his modern government marker has him as F.E. Savage in Company E, in error.
