He enlisted in Americus, GA on 15 May 1862 and mustered as a Private in Battery D of the Sumter Artillery Battalion.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD and died there on 22 (or 15) September 1862.
His widow Mary filed a claim for his final pay in March 1864.
