Douglas Washington Holloway

In 1860 he was a 16 year old living with his parents, 3 siblings, and 72 slaves on their large cotton plantation at Sister Springs in the Edgefield District, SC. He enlisted in Richmond, VA on 6 July 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company B of the Hampton Legion Cavalry Battalion. They were re-organized as Company K of the 2nd South Carolina Cavalry in August.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 22 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862.

He was wounded in action in May or June 1863, probably at Brandy Station, VA, in a hospital in Richmond to 12 August, then home on furlough into October. His horse died on 30 January 1864 and he procured a replacement on 6 March. He was surrendered and paroled at Augusta, GA on 31 May 1865.

He died at just 24 years of age in 1868.

He married Mary Ellen White (1845-1876) and they had 2 daughters, Annie (1866-1941) and Emma (1868-1888).
