Before Antietam
He was licensed to preach in 1844 and ordained in 1850, afterward pastored in Pembroke, NY. By 1860 he was the 40 year old minister of the Baptist Church in the village of Dundee in Yates County, NY. Going by Spencer, he enlisted in Starkey, NY on 2 August 1862 and mustered on 22 August as a Sergeant in Company B, 126th New York Infantry. He was appointed Chaplain of the regiment on 31 August (commissioned on 31 December).
On the Campaign
He was at Harpers Ferry with his regiment and
was on Maryland Heights [on 13 September 1862] when Colonel Sherrill was wounded, and assisted him off the Heights ...
The rest of the War
... and attended him until he reached the Relay House, near Baltimore, where the Colonel met his friends from home. Chaplain Harrison then joined his Regiment, accompanied it to [the parole camp in] Chicago, and thence back to the field againin November 1862. He tended the wounded in hospitals during and after the battle of Gettysburg in July 1863 and in later actions. He was detached to the Division Hospital from August 1864 into May 1865 and mustered out with his regiment on 3 June 1865 near Alexandria, VA.
After the War
In 1865 he was a Baptist minister at Starkey, NY.

He married Sarah Ann Couse (1826-1911) and they had 2 daughters and a son between 1845 and 1853. Daughter Lillie married former Corporal Edwin Knapp of the 126th New York Infantry in 1868; her husband and father died in the same year.
