Before Sharpsburg

Mustered as First Corporal, Company D of the 4th Georgia Infantry on 26 April 1861. Promoted First Sergeant 28 April 1862 and Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 15 July.

The rest of the War

Promoted to First Lieutenant in 1863. Captured as Spottsylvania, Virginia (12 May 1864) while commanding the Sharpshooters of the Regiment. He was paroled at Charleston SC in December.

After the War

He was a life long employee - retiring as Superintendent - of the Southern Express Company of Atlanta.
