Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 22 year old planter with 3 slaves in Burke County, GA. He enlisted in Waynesboro, GA on 26 April 1861 and mustered in Augusta, GA on 2 May as 3rd Sergeant of Company A, 3rd Georgia Infantry. He was elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 1 July 1862 and was wounded at Malvern Hill, VA on 1 July.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in the left leg, at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and his leg was amputated. He was in hospitals in Richmond, VA to 10 August 1863 then sent home disabled for further service. He was surrendered and paroled at Augusta, GA on 18 May 1865.

After the War

By 1880 he was supervisory Clerk of Court at Waynesboro in Burke County, GA and was a farmer there in 1900.

He married Sarah Catherine Quinn (1842-1876) in November 1856 and they had 6 children. He married again, Lucy C Lovett (1857-1949) in April 1878 and they had 3 more.
