Before Sharpsburg
Son of a wealthy planter, in 1860 he was an 18 year old living on his parents' large plantation at Octavia in Early County, GA; his father owned or held for others more than 70 slaves. He enlisted at Penfield, GA on 24 (or 26) April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company C, 3rd Georgia Infantry on 3 May in Augusta, GA. He was wounded at South Mills, NC on 19 April 1862 and transferred to Company K, date not given. He was detailed as assistant to the Adjutant from June - August and appointed First Lieutenant and Adjutant on 6 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds in Shepherdstown, VA on 19 September 1862. His father filed a claim for his final pay in April 1863.
