Basic information from Commonwealth of Massachusetts1. He was a 22 year old clerk in Boston when he enlisted as Corporal on 16 July 1862. He was discharged 12 March 1863 to accept commission in hte US Colored Troops. He was appointed Captain of the 79th USCT in December and mustered out on 17 August 1864.
