Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Thomas County, GA on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company E of the 50th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November and returned to duty by the end of 1862.

He was promoted to Corporal and Sergeant, dates not found. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 27 April 1863 and promoted to First Lieutenant in February 1864. He was wounded by a gunshot to his right thigh on 19 October 1864, probably in action at Cedar Creek, VA, and was in a Richmond, VA hospital to at least 30 November (and probably to the end of the year). The roll for January and February 1865, the last in his military file, shows him absent with leave. He was at Danville, VA, en route to his command at the end of the war and was surrendered on 10 May and paroled at Thomasville, GA on 13 May 1865.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a prosperous farmer near Thomasville, GA.
