Before Sharpsburg

A farmer's son, about 24 years old, from Thomas County, GA, he enlisted there on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company E of the 50th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded, his "hand shot off," and captured in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was sent to U. S. Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD, transferred for exchange on 19 September, and paroled on 27 September. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 9 October and furloughed home on 13 October 1862. He was discharged on 11 February 1863.

After the War

By 1870 he was a farmer near Boston in Thomas County, GA.
