He enlisted as 2nd (or 3rd) Sergeant, Company B, 50th Georgia Infantry on 4 March 1862 at Waresboro.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a Richmond hospital on 11 October and furloughed for 40 days on 23 October 1862. He was wounded again, in action at Cold Harbor, VA on 1 June 1864 and sent home on wounded furlough. He was listed as absent without leave in Ware County by November 1864, by then reduced to Private, and did not return to his unit.

He married Sarah Ann Agee (1845-1914) in 1864 and they had 7 children.

His younger brother Moses (b. 1842) was also in Company B and was killed at Petersburg, VA on 21 July 1964. Noah named his firstborn Moses Virginia Pittman (1866-1941).
