From Wayne County, age 19, he mustered as Private, Company B, 19th Indiana Infantry on 29 July 1861.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was originally buried on the Antietam battlefield and it is likely he was removed and taken home in March 1863. Some remains were identified as his and reinterred in the National Cemetery in about 1867.
