At age 40 years he enlisted 22 January 1862, at Unionville, to serve three years; mustered in as Private, Company C, 78th New York Infantry on 25 January 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam of 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds on 20 September 1862. He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery during or before 1867.
