Before Antietam
A 27 year old miner in Schuykill County, he enlisted on 9 September 1861 and mustered as Private, Company E, 48th Pennsylvania Infantry in Harrisburg on 21 September.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was reinterred from his original burial on the field to the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
