Before Antietam
He volunteered with the First Company of Minnesota Sharpshooters, and was assigned with them as Company L of the 2nd US Sharpshooters in December 1861.
On the Campaign
He died of a 'fever' at Frederick, MD on 30 September 1862.
After the War
He was removed from his original burial in Frederick, MD and reinterred at the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
