An 18 year old boot maker from Randolph, he enlisted in Company E, 35th Massachusetts Infantry 22 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a hospital at Keedysville, MD and died there of wounds on 20 September. He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery during or before 1867.
