From Avon, WI, he enlisted in Company G, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 31 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain in Maryland on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of his wounds on 7 October 1862, probably at a US field hospital at Middletown, MD.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial at Middletown, MD to the new National Cemetery about 1867.
