A farmer from Vasselboro, he enlisted in Company B, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 20 on 25 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 30 September 1862. He was originally buried in Frederick, MD. Later reinterred in the National Cemetery.
