Age 30, he enlisted on 3 August 1862 and mustered as Private, Company K, 123rd Pennsylvania Infantry on 9 August in Pittsburgh.

On the Campaign

He died, probably of disease, at the Smoketown Hospital near Sharpsburg on 4 November 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial near the battlefield to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
