He enlisted at age 21 in Company H, 22nd New York Infantry on 8 May 1861 at Cortland, NY.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the left arm and thigh in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the Hoffman Farm Hospital at Sharpsburg, but died of his wounds on 11 October 1862.
