Before Antietam

Age 19, he enlisted in Company F, 7th Ohio Infantry for 3 years on 30 June 1861 and was appointed Corporal. He was promoted to First Sergeant on 1 June 1862. He was wounded in action at Cedar Mountain, VA on 9 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery during or before 1867.
