Age 20, from Branch County, he enlisted in Quincy as a Private in Company C, 16th Michigan Infantry on 24 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He died of disease at Sharpsburg, MD on 26 October 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in or near Sharpsburg but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
