Age 42, he enlisted in Geneseo as a Private in Company D, 104th New York Infantry on 7 February 1862.
On the Campaign
He died, probably of disease, at the Smoketown hospital on 12 November 1862.
After the War
He was originally buried near the hospital at Smoketown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
