Before Antietam

Age 23, he enlisted at Little Falls on 25 January 1862 as Private, Company I, 97th New York Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the left thigh (femur broken), right arm, and right shoulder in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at field hospitals on the Hoffman Farm near Sharpsburg and at Smoketown, MD, but he died of his wounds on 23 (or 30) October 1862. He was originally buried on the hospital grounds and reinterred in the new National Cemetery about 1867.
