He mustered into service as Private, Company H, 5th Maryland Infantry on 7 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to the chest in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 27 September but died there the next day, Sunday, at 9 o'clock a.m.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial in Frederick, MD to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
