Age 18, he enlisted at Newport as Private, Company C, 121st New York Infantry on 23 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He died of typhoid fever at Burkittsville, MD on 7 (or 9) December 1862.

After the War

He was initially buried in Burkittsville and was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
