Age 21, he enlisted in Havana and mustered as Private, Company H, 107th New York Infantry on 25 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD beginning 22 September, but died there of his wounds on 26 September 1862. He was originally buried in Frederick and reinterred at the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
