Before Antietam

Age 32, he enlisted on Long Island, NY, and mustered as a Sergeant in Company F, 42nd New York Infantry on 22 June 1861. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 19 February 1862, and to First Lieutenant on 1 July.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
