A 22 year old wheelwright, he enlisted in Philadelphia on 30 May 1861. He mustered into service as Sergeant, Company A, 12th Pennsylvania Reserves on 10 August in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
