Age 21, from Ashland, he mustered as Private, Company B, 10th Maine Infantry on 4 October 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded by gunshot to the chest in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 26 September but died of wounds on 21 (or 23) October 1862. He was reinterred from burial in Frederick to the National Cemetery in or before 1867.
