Before Antietam

Age 30, he enlisted on 1 May 1861 in Buffalo to serve two years and mustered as Private, Company A, 21st New York Infantry on 20 May. He was promoted to Corporal on 26 July and Sergeant on 7 January 1862.

On the Campaign

He died of disease in the Smoketown field hospital on 30 November 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried at Smoketown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
