Age 24, he enlisted at Machias on 20 January 1862 and mustered as Private, Company D, 105th New York Infantry on 26 March.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded by gunshot to the knee in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 21 September 1862 but died of wounds on 1 October 1862.
