He enlisted in Company F, 2nd Delaware Infantry at age 30 on 15 August 1861 in Wilmington.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds and was buried at Smoketown, MD; reinterred in the National Cemetery before or during 1867.
