Age 33, he enlisted on 11 June 1861 in Elmira and mustered as Private, Company D, 35th New York Infantry the same day.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by gunshot to the leg in action in Maryland in September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 19 September but died of wounds there on 25 September 1862.
