On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded by gunshot to the shoulder, probably in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 3 October 1862 but died there of wounds on 4 November 1862. He was originally buried at Frederick and reinterred in the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
