Before Antietam
He enlisted at age 25 in Company H, First Delaware Infantry on 27 September 1861 at Wilmington.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded by a gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick on 29 September but died there on 16 October 1862.
After the War
He was originally buried in Frederick but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
