He was wounded by gunshot in action in Maryland on or before 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 14 September 1862 and died there of wounds on 29 September. He was reinterred from his original burial in Frederick to the new National Cemetery in 1866 or 1867.
