Age 44, he enlisted 29 August 1862 at Watertown, NY, in Company C, 35th New York Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland but died, probably of disease, in the Smoketown Hospital, near Sharpsburg, on 13 (or 8) November 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried at Smoketown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
