Age 31, he enlisted on 20 August 1861 in Stockton for three years and mustered as Private, Company G, 49th New York Infantry on 11 September.

On the Campaign

He died, probably of disease, in a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 30 November 1862.

After the War

He was originally buried in Hagerstown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
