Before Antietam
From Union, he enlisted as a Private in Company H, 5th Connecticut Infantry on 16 July 1861 but was discharged 7 days later (probably under-age). He enlisted again, as a Private in Company I, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 9 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed by a gunshot to his chest in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and was buried on the field.
After the War
He was reinterred in the National Cemetery in about 1867.
