Before Antietam
From Crawford County, he enlisted as a Private in Company A, 5th Wisconsin Infantry on 13 July 1861.
On the Campaign
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD for typhoid fever on 5 October 1862 but died there on 3 November 1862.
After the War
He was originally buried in Frederick but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
