Before Antietam
Age 20, he enlisted on 15 September 1861 in Upper Merion, and mustered into service in Harrisburg as a Private in Company I, 51st Pennsylvania Infantry on 28 September.
On the Campaign
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 19 October for chronic dysentery and died there later that day.
After the War
He was reinterred from his original burial in Frederick to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
