Age 23, he enlisted as Private in Company D, 30th Ohio Infantry on 16 August 1861.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was reinterred from his original burial on South Mountain to the new National Cemetery about 1867.
