A cabinetmaker from Burlington, he enlisted in Company G, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 34 on 25 May 1861. He was captured in action near Winchester, VA on 25 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He died of disease at Sharpsburg, MD on 13 November 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on the Antietam battlefield to the National Cemetery during or before 1867.
