A 21 year old farmer in Conneaut Township, Erie County, he mustered as Corporal, Company E, 111th Pennsylvania Infantry on 22 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on the battlefield to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
