Age 23, he enlisted as Private, Company H, 20th New York Infantry on 3 May 1861 in New York City.

On the Campaign

He died of disease on 21 October 1862 at the regimental hospital in Hagerstown, MD.

After the War

He was originally buried in Hagerstown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.

Burial information from the Antietam Cemetery History.1 His service from the Adjutant General.2 His gravesite is on Findagrave; his stone has him as a Corporal, so he may have been promoted.
